Structural design

Our company has been a stable and influential player in the Hungarian construction industry since 1996. As a structural design firm, we have participated and continue to participate in the realization of numerous major domestic projects. We maintain our competitiveness by delivering high-quality engineering services, with a strong commitment to precision, reliability, and continuous improvement.

Throughout the design process, we combine decades of experience with the use of modern digital engineering tools, ensuring that the structures we design are not only sufficiently safe but also cost-effective for our clients. During the design process, we place special emphasis on selecting the optimal structural system, fully meeting client and architectural requirements, and applying the most economically efficient structural solutions possible.

Selected projects

Waterfront City Residential Park

With Biggeorge Property’s development, a new district called Waterfront City is being built on the site of the former Budapest Spirits Company, across 5 hectares. Construction of the residential park with more than a thousand apartments is already underway, with nine- and thirteen-story buildings alternating. Multi-level underground garages are being created on the basement levels of the buildings.

As the project’s general structural designer, our task is to fully meet client and architectural requirements, which we achieve by applying meticulously optimized structural solutions in every case, keeping aesthetic requirements in mind alongside cost-efficiency.

Szervita Square

Horizon Development created a distinctive 21st century building integrated into a historic setting at Szervita Square, with parking, retail and office areas, and apartments; its unusual solutions and appearance have made it an exciting city center location.

As the general structural designer, the building with five underground levels, a subterranean space exceeding 17 meters, an unusual form, and special architectural solutions presented exciting challenges during design, which we met with persistent work and creative, innovative engineering solutions.

Allee

The shopping center opened in 2009 on the site of the former Budai Skala, covering about 46,000 square meters, with offices, a 13-screen cinema, and an underground garage. The structure is in-situ reinforced concrete, while the cinema structure and the supporting structure of the glass roof are steel. The complex also includes a 6,100 square meter Class A office area and an 89-apartment residential park, the Simplon Udvar, located next to the shopping center. The large-span glass roof system supported by prestressed steel members is structurally distinctive.

As general structural designers, our office played a significant role in the shopping center’s design process that began in 2007 and lasted more than two years, and in the design of the renovation works completed in 2021.

Haladas Football Stadium

Built in Szombathely and fully compliant with international standards, the sports complex and recreation area is a multi-unit building ensemble. The central part is a football stadium with more than 9,000 seats and a fully covered grandstand. The modern sports complex is UEFA Category IV.

In 2020, at the building of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, the jury of the Tierney Clark Award presented an honorary certificate, in addition to the main prize, to the designers and contractors of the Haladas Sports Complex in Szombathely. This also paid tribute to the stadium’s late structural designer and our company’s founder, Janos Volkai.

Metrodom Panorama Residential Park

Located in Ujpest City Center, Metrodom Panorama Residential Park, with its 55 m towers, is among the country’s tallest residential buildings. The residential park’s 632 apartments, shops, and offices are arranged in a building block of wings with varying heights. Up to the 6th floor there are smaller apartments and studios; from the 7th floor upward there are larger apartments with terraces and exceptional views, and on the 15-17th floors there are apartments.

The multi-year design process resulted in a building complex that is not only architecturally distinctive, but in many respects structurally special as well.
